She Tripping

Building a Travel Blog and a Digital Marketing Business

The Spark

In January 2020, I launched She Tripping, a travel blog dedicated to sharing the experiences of traveling as a Black woman. At the time, I was navigating compassion fatigue and burnout from my work in the veterinary industry. She Tripping served as a creative outlet to rediscover my passions and explore new possibilities.

Telling Stories and Building Community

She Tripping became a platform for candid storytelling and actionable advice. I wrote weekly blog posts on topics like:

  • “8 Costly Rookie Travel Mistakes I Made So You Don’t Have To": A guide to avoiding common pitfalls with lessons learned from my own missteps.

  • “Traveling While Black: The Silver Lining": A satirical take on reframing microaggressions into opportunities while abroad.

  • “10 Travel Tips for Black Women from Black Women": A collaborative piece featuring advice from Black women travelers with followings ranging from 1,000 to 100,000+.

Driving Growth Through Digital Marketing

To amplify She Tripping, I leaned into digital marketing. I did this by:

  • Growing a Pinterest audience to 1 million monthly viewers by creating engaging, shareable visuals.

  • Developing an email funnel to nurture an audience through free travel resources.

  • Promoting the blog on Instagram, leveraging storytelling to drive engagement and growth.

From Blog to Business

This hands-on experience in content creation, copywriting, and audience engagement led me to launch a business in August 2020, supporting women of color entrepreneurs. For four years, I provided marketing and administrative services to clients in industries such as health and wellness, cannabis policy, and career coaching. This experience is what eventually led me to exploring the world of UX design and falling in love with it.

Looking Ahead

After exploring and running my business and sunsetting it in late 2024, it’s clear for me to see how I carry forward the skills I honed—storytelling, digital strategy, and audience connection—into my work today. She Tripping was more than a travel blog; it was a turning point in my career, sparking a passion for designing impactful experiences and telling stories that are authentic and resonate.
